Chiron Review, Issue #124, Winter 2021
Great issue! And my "Special Fave" of the issue is "Clarinet" by Judith Saunders. This poem made me smile and chuckle and feel warm and good. As you might infer from the title, the poem is about the clarinet, and it focuses on the unique sound the clarinet makes. My favorite line of the poem, or of most any poem ever for that matter, is this one:
"It is what happens when a duck tries to hum."
Brilliant!
Also a close tie to the "duck" line in eliciting smiles and chuckles are these, the final lines of the poem--
"this squeaky woodwind persists,
earnest and unabashed/
in its pitiless pursuit of song,
translating note after note/
of glorious melody
into adenoidal noise."
Nice! I just love this poem. And enjoyed the entire issue. And I'm already looking forward to the next issue, just as I look forward to each and every issue of Chiron Review. Chiron Review celebrates its 40th Anniversary this year. For more information about Chiron Review, visit their website -- http://www.chironreview.com/.
